Tim Hermans graduated as an economist in 1997 and joined the National Bank of Belgium in the same year. In the Bank he worked as an economist-statistician and, later on, as an analyst in the Prudential Policy and Financial Stability Department.
From 2004 until 2009, he was an advisor and Chief of staff to the Minister of Economic Affairs and the Minister of Finance.
In 2015 he was appointed a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank. In that capacity he is in charge of surveillance of market infrastructures, payment services and cyber risks, as well as cash operations and the IT-department.
Besides his responsibilities in the Bank, he is a member of the High Council of Finance and he is also the vice-chairman of the Belgian National Council for Productivity.
